Peers are a network of volunteer pilots trained in CISM (Critical Incident Stress Management) methodology, empathic listening, psychological first aid, and emotional support, to assist colleagues facing work-related or non-work-related personal or emotional issues. And since they “speak the same language” as those seeking assistance from the program, the therapeutic bond is established almost immediately.
Through PAPI, pilots have a unique opportunity to discuss personal issues with someone who can offer active, empathetic, confidential, and independent listening, and can help them better cope with events that could affect their mental well-being.
Required skills:

The role of peers is to listen and offer guidance confidentially and without prejudice, to support pilots in managing their problems, and to help them find options for resolving them so that they can make their own decisions.
Of course, they will also be available to follow up on the decision made, including offering information on other more specific support programs and specialized professional assistance if deemed necessary.
